A group exhibition showcases the work of Thai and international artists selected by Tristan Deschamps, the curator, to create a conversation with the specific site at The Shophouse 1527 – the space of intimacy, where one feels at home, safe, surrounded by the familiar, and unwatched by the other. The exhibition brings us to delve into our relationship with intimacy and what is familiar on different levels. The selected and site-specific works are to build the framework and structure to welcome the exchange, hosting a program of live-streamed talks, performances, and readings. 

This book includes reviews and interviews from the group exhibition ‘stricte intimité’, which leads us to become acquainted with each of the artworks within the show, with descriptions that take us to walk together to see the artworks in the exhibition ourselves through reviews. The last part is an interview with the curator about the origin of the project and the concept of each artwork, taking the readers to delve into two particular artworks and get to know the nine artists through short bios at the end.

This book is the catalog of Thailand’s exhibition in the International Architecture Exhibition, The 17th Venice Biennale, organized by La Biennale di Venezia under the theme ‘How will we live together?’. The concept of the theme in this Biennale is in line with the relationship and way of life between the elephants and the Kui people in Surin Province and thus is the origin of the Thailand exhibition “elephant” and the structure “Ban Khon Ban Chang” designed by Asst. Prof. Boonserm Premthada and curated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apiradi Kasemsuk, with support from the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture and the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage. 

The book features the origin and story of the exhibition, including the design since the beginning of the project, activities throughout the program, field visits, presented through interviews with people related to elephants from different perspectives, photographs from the field visit, architectural drawings, including the installation of works both in Thailand and at the exhibition space at the Biennale.

หนังสือเล่มนี้เป็นสูจิบัตรนิทรรศการของประเทศไทยในนิทรรศการสถาปัตยกรรมนานาชาติ เวนิสเบียนนาเล่ ครั้งที่ 17 ซึ่งจัดขึ้นโดย La Biennale di Venezia ภายใต้แนวคิด ‘How will we live together?’ หรือ ‘เราจะอยู่ร่วมกันอย่างไร?’ ซึ่งมีแนวคิดสอดคล้องกับความสัมพันธ์และวิถีชีวิตระหว่างช้างกับชาวกูยใน จังหวัดสุรินทร์ จึงเป็นที่มาของนิทรรศการของประเทศไทย “elephant” และโครงสร้าง “บ้านคนบ้านช้าง” ที่ออกแบบโดย ผศ. บุญเสริม เปรมธาดา และมี รศ.ดร. อภิรดี เกษมศุข เป็นภัณฑารักษ์ ด้วยการสนับสนุนจากสำนักงานศิลปวัฒนธรรมร่วมสมัย กระทรวงวัฒนธรรม ร่วมกับสมาคมสถาปนิกสยาม ในพระราชูปถัมภ์

This special compact book takes us to explore S Box, the new ultra-small hotel, a new type of city hotel, through the conver- sation with Sarun Limsawaddiwong’ – the Founder of S Hotel Group – about the inspiration and the concept behind the S Box. There is also an interview with Shanasit Thirakomen of keendesignstudio, the architect and designer of the hotel interior.

The book also includes designs and information on rooms of various sizes and layouts, along with other S Box amenities, and the last two sections of the book feature the tourist area information, nearby restaurants, shops, and galleries in the Sukhumvit area, which are well selected as ‘little somethings.’

หนังสือเล่มกะทัดรัดที่พาเราไปทำความรู้จักกับโรงแรมขนาดเล็กพิเศษ ซึ่งเป็นโรงแรมในเมืองรูปแบบใหม่ ผ่านบทสนทนาถึงที่มาและคอนเซ็ปต์ของ “S Box” โรงแรมขนาดเล็กโครงการใหม่ในเครือ S Hotel Group ของสรัญ ลิ้มสวัสดิ์วงศ์ นอกจากการพูดคุยกับสรัญ ลิ้มสวัสดิ์วงศ์ ผู้ก่อตั้งแล้ว ยังมีบทสัมภาษณ์ ชนสิษฎ์ ธีระโกเมน แห่ง keendesignstudio สถาปนิกผู้ออกแบบรวมอยู่ด้วย

The ASA Journal (May-June 2021) themed under ‘The Comfort Zone’ features a wide range of architectural projects and spaces. These selected projects share a commonality. They provide safety and a sense of ‘comfort’ to users, physically and mentally, through different design programs, scales, materials, and concepts reflected in each work. 

ASA also talked to an up-and-coming design studio, IF or Integrated Fields, about their approach to professional design practice and interesting organizational management, as well as conversing with the President of Siamese Association Architects. And with the latest wave of COVID-19 still in full force, the ASA Journal has spoken to owners of downtown hotels about how they have been coping amid the pandemic, including the adaptation of their experiences in the hospitality business to coincide with the rising healthcare demands.

วารสารอาษาฉบับเดือนพฤษภาคม-มิถุนายน ของปี 2564 ภายใต้ ธีม “Comfort Zone” นี้นําเสนอโครงการออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรมหลากหลาย ประเภทที่แสดงออกถึงการสร้างพื้นที่ที่ให้ความรู้สึก “ปลอดภัย” และ “สุขกาย สบายใจ” ในรูปแบบที่แตกต่างกันทั้งโปรแกรมการออกแบบ ขนาดโครงการ วัสดุอาคาร ตลอดจนแนวคิดการออกแบบที่สะท้อนออกมาผ่านผลงานแต่ละโครงการ

สําหรับในแวดวงวิชาชีพ อาษาได้คุยกับสํานักงานออกแบบรุ่นใหม่อย่าง IF-Integrated Fields ที่มีแนวทางการทำงานวิชาชีพ และการบริหารจัดการ องค์กรที่น่าสนใจ รวมทั้งสนทนากับนายกสมาคมสถาปนิกสยามฯ นอกจากนี้ วารสารอาษายังให้ความสำคัญกับเรื่องราวในช่วงเวลาที่สถานการณ์การระบาดของโควิด-19 ระลอกใหม่ ยังคงดําเนินอยู่ทั่วประเทศ โดยในฉบับนี้ได้สนทนากับผู้ประกอบการธุรกิจโรงแรมในเมืองว่าได้ปรับตัวรับมือกับโควิด-19 ที่ผ่าน มาอย่างไร โดยเฉพาะการปรับรูปแบบการบริการให้สอดคล้องกับความจําเป็นด้านสาธารณสุขนอกเหนือจากด้านการท่องเที่ยวดังเช่นที่ผ่านมา

The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has caused so-called social distancing regulations that interfere with the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of the people. The concept of social distancing is not new. American anthropologist Edward T. Hall observed how typical Americans use space and proposed the theory: Proxemics. Proxemics explains why people use different distances in their interactions. In his famous book, The Hidden Dimension, Hall pointed to the basic territorial instincts inherited in human as the reason for different distancing. The theory became the basis or rule of thumb in space planning and design, viewed as significant and coherent among architects and designers.

To explore this notion, Design Literacy Forum VIII invites architecture and design academics to revisit the long-standing theory “Proxemics” and submit their creative works that offer a discourse in how “Proxemics” is applied in design in order to find reasonable solutions to the Covid 19 new normal that is influencing our way of life.

การระบาดใหญ่ของโควิด-19 ทำให้เกิดการเว้นระยะห่างทางสังคม ซึ่งเป็นข้อกำหนดที่หลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้ ส่งผลรบกวนต่อสุขภาพร่างกาย อารมณ์ และสังคม แนวคิดของการเว้นระยะห่างทางสังคมไม่ใช่เรื่องใหม่แต่อย่างใด นักมานุษยวิทยาชาวอเมริกัน Edward T. Hall สังเกตว่าชาวอเมริกันทั่วไปใช้พื้นที่อย่างไรและ เสนอทฤษฎี “Proxemics” ขึ้นมา โดยทฤษฎี Proxemics อธิบายว่าเหตุใดผู้คน จึงใช้ระยะห่างต่างกันในการปฏิสัมพันธ์ ในหนังสือชื่อ Hidden Dimension ที่มีชื่อเสียงของเขา Hall ชี้ไปที่สัญชาตญาณพื้นฐานในการรับรู้อาณาเขตที่สืบทอด มาในมนุษย์เป็นสาเหตุของการเว้นระยะห่างที่แตกต่างกัน ทฤษฎีนี้จึงกลายเป็นพื้นฐานหรือหลักการง่ายๆ ในการวางแผนผังและออกแบบพื้นที่ ซึ่งถูกมองว่า มีความสำคัญในหมู่สถาปนิกและนักออกแบบ 

หนังสือเล่มนี้นำเสนอผลงานสร้างสรรค์เพื่อค้นหาทางรับมือกับโควิด-19 ผ่านการ ศึกษาทบทวนทฤษฎี “Proxemics” ของคณาจารย์ด้านสถาปัตยกรรมและการ ออกแบบจาก Montfort del Rosario School of Architecture and Design คณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยอัสสัมชัญ ในโครงการ Design Literacy Forum VIII ภายในเล่มประกอบด้วย 10 ผลงานการสร้างสรรค์ จาก 10 คณาจารย์ด้านสถาปัตยกรรมและการออกแบบ ที่นำเสนอข้อมูล แนวคิด พร้อมแบบประกอบ โดยแบ่งหมวดหมู่ผลงานออกเป็น 3 รูปแบบ คือ ผลงาน การวางแผนผังแสงสว่างในเมือง การออกแบบของใช้และสถานที่ และการ ออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรมภายใน

In 2014, the Austrian team of HOLODECK architects won a European-level open competition to design the new Austrian Embassy in Bangkok. It took four years for the new embassy building to complete. With respect to the characteristics of Austria and Thailand leads to a unique symbiotic space. The created building ensemble offers an inspiring environmental and technological exchange within contemporary architecture. Altogether they create a holistic and sustainable architecture. 

This special publication, with support from European Union, conveys the architectural design concept and stories that came about the new Austrian Embassy in Bangkok designed by HOLODECK architects through articles from the architects and Kanokwan Trakulyingcharoen. There is also information on the materials and products used and beautiful photographs of the exterior and interior of the building.

 

ในปี 2014 ทีมสถาปนิก HOLODECK จากออสเตรียชนะการประกวดแบบแบบเปิดในระดับยุโรปในการออกแบบสถานเอกอัครราชทูตออสเตรียในกรุงเทพ หลังจากนั้นเป็นเวลาสี่ปี อาคารสถานทูตแห่งใหม่นี้ก็ได้ก่อสร้างแล้วเสร็จสิ้น ด้วยแนวคิดของการให้ความเคารพคุณลักษณะของประเทศออสเตรียและไทย นำไปสู่การเกิดขึ้นของพื้นที่ จากแนวคิดความสัมพันธ์แบบการอยู่ร่วมกัน ที่เมื่อรวมองค์ประกอบทั้งทางรูปธรรมและนามธรรมเข้าด้วยกันแล้ว ก่อกำเนิดเป็นสถาปัตยกรรมที่มีความยั่งยืน มีเอกลักษณ์ และเป็นหนึ่งเดียว 

หนังสือที่จัดทำขึ้นเป็นพิเศษโดยการสนับสนุนของสหภาพยุโรปเล่มนี้ บอกเล่าถึงแนวคิดและเรื่องราวที่มาเกี่ยวกับอาคารใหม่ของสถานเอกอัครราชทูตออสเตรียในกรุงเทพฯ ซึ่งออกแบบโดยสถาปนิก HOLODECK ผ่านบทความจากสถาปนิกผู้ ออกแบบและบทความพิเศษโดย กนกวรรณ ตระกูลยิ่งเจริญ จากนี้ยังมีชุดข้อมูล รายละเอียดของผลิตภัณฑ์ที่ใช้ในอาคาร พร้อมภาพถ่ายที่สวยงามของภายนอก และภายในอาคารอีกด้วย

In the mid of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic rose to a state of crisis and disaster, with the emergence of the terms like quarantine, social distancing, and New Normal. It’s the first time in the history of mankind that we can save the world simply by watching TV series at home. It’s also the first time in its history that art4d’s editors had presented art4d in the form of an E-Magazine and online exhibition for everyone to read and download for free on the website. Featuring in this very special issue are the work of 85 artists, designers, and architects, sharing their ideas and creative works in response to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as new living conditions owing to the social distancing in one of the four categories – Creative Solutions, Design from Home, What Art Can Do? – Art in the Age of Global Pandemic, and COVID Diary. This is one of the most memorable issues in the history of art4d that we will never forget.

This beautifully designed and printed hardcover book is a collection of interior designs that won awards from the Thailand Interior Designers’ Association (TIDA) for 2019, from the winners to the finalists in 10 categories: Residential, Hotel, Small Hotel, Resort & Spa, Restaurant, Creative Eatery, Cultural & Educational, Workspace, Retail, and Preservation, including two special awards – the Emerging Interior Design Firm and Lifetime Achievement Award.

At the end of this book are interviews with the winners of each category. TIDA Awards 2019 is thus a good reference book that, to a certain extent, reflects the overview of the profession and interior design of Thailand in the late 2010s.
